Dear Norbert,
I am entering a screenprint in the show at Kohler Art Center "Heroes Surround us"
My immediate choice for a Wisconsin hero was you, so I made an homage to you and your work (attached). I believe in you and the work you do, and I want to do my part to honor and support both. For Christian artists and artists that are Christians, you are indeed a hero. Although we have never met, I find in you a humble strength that always reminds me of a true follower of Christ.
I greatly admire your process of listening to God by reading scripture and responding artistically with what He shows you. As an artist and a Christian myself, I know how difficult that can be. I have been following your career and reading things that have been written about you, and I feel that the art world is not seeing what Believers see in your work....
As an artist, your entire life's production of work has been generally categorized as "Outsider Art" and championed by that market. I have a slight uneasiness with that label, even though your success there has provided a decent living for you, and obvious blessings. But, what are they seeing when they look at your work? Who is the real "Outsider"? Nevertheless, the Word is getting out to the world in a powerful way through your work as an Outsider Artist. Even though I personally think your talent, skill, output, and devotion is better than "Outsider Art", I am trying to accept that category as an open door.
Norbert, I want to thank you for showing your work to the world, for not giving up, and for being steadfast. Someday I hope we can meet and talk about the life of the Christian artist. In the meantime, I offer my own tribute to you and your work.
Peace--Greg

This was Mr. Kox's response.
I am so honored and humbled that you have chosen me to represent. Thank you very much....
Again, thank you very much.
God bless you always,
Norbert
